Meet Reef. He started on the Ookkie at just 8 months old!
We spoke to Reef's mum, Taylor, to learn a bit more about his journey with the Ookkie. Here's what she had to say.
What was your reason for getting an Ookkie?
We love skating and surfing. Plus we thought the idea of the Ookkie board was an awesome idea to help with balance and get him used to being on a moving object while standing but still being able to hold on to something.
Describe the learning experience on the Ookkie for us.
The first couple times was a little bit difficult as we had to figure out whether he was natural or goofy. But we did start him around the 8 month mark so we weren’t really expecting too much. But within his third try on the board he was holding on independently which was so cool to watch!
Do you get any comments when you're out and about riding the board?
We always get comments from people while at skate parks saying how cool it is and it’s such a great idea. I can’t believe he’s not even a year old yet. We have made so many new friends just from starting the conversation about the Ookkie board.
How has the Ookkie helped your little one in their development?
Reef’s balance is amazing. We can go up ramps down ramps and bumps etc and he doesn’t even wobble any more. I’ve also found that the strength in his legs is just crazy. I do believe it is from standing up and bending his knees almost into a squat position while going over different obstacles on his Ookkie board. But not only that, I find that his social skills with other kids and people who come up to him and have a look at the board has made him extremely social.
How has the Ookkie become a part of your family life and routine?
We try and go down to a skate park at least twice a week. Sometimes we manage to go to them more but we always have both reef’ and dad’s skate boards in the car so if we ever have a little spare time we drop into a skate park.
